Reason -아서/어서 vs -(으)니까

What it means

Both -아서/어서 and -(으)니까 join a reason to a result, like "because..., so..." in English. They often mean the same thing. The big difference is what is allowed to come after them.

How to make it

• -아서/어서 follows the same rule as -아요/-어요. Last vowel ㅏ or ㅗ → 아서: 가다 → 가서. Other vowels → 어서: 먹다 → 먹어서. 하다 → 해서: 공부하다 → 공부해서
• Irregular verbs change just like in -아요/-어요: 고프다 → 고파요 → 고파서 (배가 고파서)
• -(으)니까 after a vowel → 니까: 가다 → 가니까, 오다 → 오니까
